ITU's SG commends ANTIC's role in the development of Cameroon's digital economy

The securing of Cameroon's cyberspace by ANTIC has been commended by the Secretary General of the International Telecommunications Union, ITU, Houlin Zhoa. In a visit to the Agency's exhibition stand at the fringes of a three-day conference on digital economy in Central Africa taking place in Yaaounde-Cameroon, Mr Houlin Zhoa, urged the Agency to fortify the security of the country's cyberspace in order to build trust which is fundamental for the development of the digital economy. Mr Zhoa visited the stand after presiding at the opening of the conference 23 May 2018 in the presence of Cameroon's Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Minette Libom Li Likeng and a host of other government ministers from the sub region.

ANTIC's Director General, Dr. Ebot Ebot Enaw, also hosted at the stand, the Vice President of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) for Africa, Pierre Dandjinou, and Chairman of Ghana DOT COM LTD, Dr Nii Narku Quaynor, with whom he shared the Agency's experience in the promotion of ICT development in Cameroon.

 

The conference, first of its kind to be organised by ITU in Central Africa is holding under the theme "The Digital Economy in Central Africa: current situation and challenges in a globalised world."

The conference seeks to examine the achievements, weaknesses and evolution of the digital economy in central Africa and ways it could be tailored to serve as a lever for sub regional integration and sustainable development.

Expert speakers at the conference are drawn from Cameroon, Ghana, ITU and other telecommunication organisations. The speakers will address issues such as: "The  digital economy as an important leverage in the establishment of a continental free trade area" as well as  "Artificial intelligence, meta-data and development of digital economy: challenges and prospects for the sub region."
